SWIMMING & DIVING Cards travel south to take on Jaguars

Both BSU teams have won last four meets at IUPUI

The Ball State men's and women's swim teams will both go head to head against IUPUI tonight in Indianapolis.

The men's team looks to win its second match after an impressive win at Buffalo, and the women are looking to pick up the pieces from their loss at Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Both teams, however, are not only undefeated against IUPUI in their last four meets, but the Cardinals are undefeated against IUPUI at Jaguars' pool. Last season, the Ball State men's team downed IUPUI 72-40, and the women destroyed the Jaguars 102-11.

However, that doesn't stop the team from getting excited about facing IUPUI. "We always look forward to going to IUPUI for a dual meet because they have probably the finest facility in the world," co-head coach Bob Thomas said. "It's always nice to go and swim in the same pool where world records have been set in."

The Cardinals are looking to defeat a team that is rich in individual swimmers including junior Brett Ellsworth, who holds the team's fastest times in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle for the season, and junior Kelly Miller, who holds the school record for the 200-yard butterfly and is a member of the record-holding 200-yard free relay.

However, their weakness lies in their overall squad. "They have some wonderful individual swimmers and divers on their team, but they don't have the kind of team depth that we do," Thomas said. "As a team, they cannot put up the numbers that we can. So, I am very confident that we will be able to beat them."
