SWIMMING & DIVING Cards rule the pool as Jaguars flounder

For the fifth straight year, the Ball State men and women's swimming and diving team walked all over IUPUI.

The Ball State men's team beat IUPUI 157-59. The Ball State women's team beat the Jaguars 143-81.

The meet started off great when Addison Del Rio Tara Simmer, Jen Beresheim and Ashley Vanosdol got first place in the Women's 200-yard Medley Relay (1:50.93). Vanosdol went on to also win the Women's 50-yard Free (27.87).

The men's team of Zach Hall, Josh Willer, Ryan Bowman and Tyler McQuiston took the women's example and won the Men's 200-yard medley relay (1:36.70). Hall went on to win the 100-yard backstroke (53.46), Bowman won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.10), and Willer won both the 100-yard free (48.07) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.47).

In diving action, Katie Boyle, Cassandra Pavlovich and Stephanie Paul dominated the women's side taking first, second and third, respectfully, in both diving events.

On the men's side, Ryan Plantz and Caleb Bye took first and second, respectfully, in both diving events. Zach Whitaker took third in the 1-meter diving event and fourth in the 3-meter diving event.

Kurtis Leer also had a good night winning both the 50-yard free (21.26), as well as the 500-yard free (4:47.92).

However, even with such an impressive win, the Cardinals still found this as one of the best competitions of their season.

"Any swimmer who is from Indiana loves swimming in this pool here at IUPUI," co-head coach Bob Thomas said. "It's such a legendary pool where not only Olympians swim but a place where high school state finalists give their fastest times of probably their entire swimming careers. It's always such an honor for us to be able to swim in the same pool that they all have."
