Dear Editor,
I was shocked and disappointed to hear about the recent forced resignation of a truly wonderful administrator. Doug McConkey was my adviser when I was a graduate student at Ball State. His knowledge, encouragement and integrity are what led me to be the administrator I am today. He is truly committed to the students in everything that he does and that is a quality that is sometimes lacking in top administrators.
McConkey was an asset to Ball State and will be an asset anywhere he chooses to go. People may have not supported the "Police Yourself" campaign, but it was an attempt to make things better by a man with vision. We all can learn from someone that constantly challenges and pushes us to a new level. McConkey is that person. He expects the best from himself and the students, but is supportive in his efforts and always makes time to show that.
I still cannot believe that I have to write this reaction in the paper because I am in utter shock. I can not believe this happened. President Jo Ann Gora, you have taken away the man that represents Ball State University and the direction it should be going. We are all disappointed.
