LETTER: Gora's decision cost vice president and alum's respect

Dear Editor,

It was with utter shock that I read of the recent presidential decision at Ball State. To ask a man to resign who had such character, integrity and passion for the students he served was not only an insult to the man but also a slap in the face to the legions of Ball State alumni who have worked and served with Dr. McConkey in a number of various positions.

The goal of any division of student affairs is to meet and exceed the needs of the students which it serves. I think you would be hard-pressed to find an administrator who has done more, cared more and given more to the student community of Ball State University than Doug McConkey.

I have had the privilege of working with him in graduate studies, Greek life and Orientation, where Dr. McConkey spoke daily to prospective students about his passion for our university and imparting how much we as a community care for the success of our students. To take that away is a disservice to the students in general and a blow to the ultimate character and personality of Ball State.

So congratulations Dr. Gora! You've managed to lose two things: a dedicated vice president and my respect.
