WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Unbeaten Cardinals take on Bearcats

The Ball State women's basketball team will look to stay unbeaten on the season when it faces the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday.

After winning the Seton Hall Tournament this past weekend, the Cardinals have the confidence to keep the winning streak going.

"Everything is good when you win," head coach Tracy Roller said. "I've heard this before, and its true, your food tastes better, you sleep better, everything is better."

Ball State's two wins have come from two different extremes, they overpowered Wagner 85-46 and then won a nail-bitter 71-69 against Seton Hall. Lone senior Kate Endress said winning the opener was key.

"It's exactly where we wanted to be," Endress said. "We're feeling good right now, obviously we have a tough schedule ahead. We have a lot of road games coming up and clearly our work is cut out for us, but I think we're ready."

Ball State will have only two days of prepare for a Cincinnati team that returns two starters and lost their top two scorers.

"This is what the season's all about, you got two days to prepare for a really good team," Endress said. "I think that's the true test of how good of a team we're going to be."

Cincinnati enters the game with a 1-1 record after going 15-16 last season. The team's one loss so far came against Toledo, after the Rockets erased a 15-point deficit to win 62-57. The Bearcats then beat Detroit in their home opener 60-31.

Roller said Cincinnati and Seton Hall are similar teams so preparing in two days is easier then normal. She added that the Bearcats are probably more skilled, and that a game in the 70s should be to the Cardinals' advantage.

"We've got to rebound just like we did against Seton Hall, that was our big goal," Roller said.

The team will also focus on defense, which has been the surprise so far this season.

"I don't even think it's a comparison," Endress said about how this year's defense compares to last season's. "It's not perfect yet, but we're working on it and Cincy is going to be a good test.

"I'll feel good about this team if we can come in everyday and play with the defensive intensity we played with this weekend,"

While the team is off to a good start, Roller said the team still has things it can improve.

"I think we had a good start, but we still have things to work on in every aspect of the game really," Roller said.
