SGA Senate does not change caucus legislation

Student Government Association decided Wednesday to not makesignificant changes to legislation that will create seven seats inthe senate.

The legislation will take away the deadline for organizations toapply for a permanent seat in senate by the first full week ofOctober. It also increases the numbers of seats in theorganizational caucus from eight to 12.

Sen. Kent Roberson, chairman of the organizational caucus, fought to add an amendment that would change the number of seatsfrom 12 to 15.

Roberson said 12 seats were not enough representation forstudent organizations.

"Twelve isn't that much compared to 300 organizations," hesaid.

Steve Geraci, president pro tempore and co-author of thelegislation, said he would rather keep the number at 12 than failto fill 15 seats. Although the legislation allows all groups toapply for a seat, most would have a hard time making a case thatthey have a specific need not being met by SGA, Geraci said.

SGA will have the final hearing of the legislation at its 3:15p.m. Wednesday meeting in the L.A. Pittenger Student CenterCardinal Hall A.

Geraci asked that student groups to provide input at themeeting.

"Every campus organization has a stake in what we decide nextweek," he said.
