RIGHT BACK AT YA!: Stresses, worries shouldn't hassle us

Where do we go from here? College students have so many bigdecisions to make. Before each new semester we have to decide whatclasses we are going to take, when we are going to take thoseclasses and how our classes will affect all the other things wehave going on. The longer we are in school, it seems like itbecomes less and less about classes and more about life afterschool.

We compete for the best internships, for the highest paying jobsin Muncie (and finding those is a real challenge) and for theattention of those people that can provide us with secure futures. We go about doing this in our own ways. Some of us succeed andothers fail, regardless, most of us are resilient enough to jumpback up, dust ourselves off, and jump in the arena again.

All of this hard work, our successes and failures, makes eachone of us grow. I know that I can hardly believe how much I havegrown since arriving at Ball State. I would imagine that I grewmore in my freshman year of college than I did in four years ofhigh school. Likewise, as a senior, I can no longer remember how Ilooked at the world, or thought about life, at the end of my firstyear at Ball State.

What I do know is that the pressure to perform in every aspectof life has continually grown over the last four years. Each yearbrings its own challenges and a new set of opportunities. Thoughthese decisions and new twists stress each one of us out, Iencourage all students at Ball State to keep your heads up. Ourproblems today will seem minuscule as life goes on. Always try toremember that.

It was only a few short years ago that many of us were stressingout about who we were going to prom with, whether or not we wouldbe on the student council, or if we would be on the homecomingcourt. Looking back at those things humors me now. There was solittle to worry about, yet back then those decisions saturatedevery part of our lives.

I say all of this for one reason. When faced with toughdecisions, choices and big competitions for the best internships, jobs and opportunities, let 'er rip! After all, getting or notgetting the internship or job you are stressing out about now isalmost certain to be inconsequential as your life goes on.

Ball State University students, make the most of this time inyour life, don't let your stresses and responsibilities overwhelmyou. Have faith that your hard work will lead you in the rightdirection. Believe in yourselves and stay confident, your attitudesare contagious. At the same time, soak up everything you can, everybit of knowledge and information, and use it to take you places. There is so much to do. Go find your places in this world. Life isat your fingertips. Good luck!
