OUR VIEW: Thankfully so

AT ISSUE: The Daily News editorial board gathers around the table to discuss our cornucopia of pleasures

Everyone knows the story behind America's thanksgiving...

Who are we kidding - most people don't even have a clue.

Pilgrims and native Americans got together a long time ago, ate a bunch a food to celebrate surviving and then, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it as a national holiday.

That is, essentially, this history behind Thanksgiving.

Now, neglect the Pilgrims for a second.

Yeah - like you were going to care anyway.

Here's a brief summary of the thanks the DN staff would be having if we all gathered around the table Thursday.

Thankfully, we won't be.

In regards to our football team, we may have ended the season at a disappointing 2-9, but at least those two wins were at home.

We also gave up fewer points to Purdue than I.U. did.

Speaking of I.U., we can still say that we have yet to make a porn.

Some of us are still happy that we saw theirs though.

Both the Bears and Colts are playing on Thanksgiving Day, although one team is good and the other... not so much.

Elsewhere in the world of professional sports, we're happy to say that we were not one of the guys that got jacked at the Pacers'/Pistons' brawl, although we kind of wish we could have seen it in person. We certainly would have saved the beer for our own personal indulgence.

Our debit cards are accepted at every major fast food restaurant we can think of in town, with the exception of university-controlled outlets.

Like other procrastinating, caffeine-powered students, we're ecstatic to have those 24/7 restaurants -- all three of them in town.

We're also glad we have roads to take us to the above mentioned restaurants, although the potholes on the way there are a bit disruptive to our holiday cheer.

We're thankful for good suspension on our cars.

We're happy that our course schedules turned out exactly inverse of how we put in our requests for next semester, and that all of the courses we could have used as filler are now completely full.

It is also satisfying to be able to use sarcasm in print.

Now, about those Pilgrims...
