LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Election more important than Homecoming vote

As college students it is our right and responsibility to vote.It is our duty as the youth of our growing nation to make ourvoices heard by participating in this thing called democracy. No,homecoming voting does not count because that has no merit on ourfuture as Americans. Yet, here at Ball State it seems like that isthe only thing people are concerned about. Throughout campus all Isee are "Vote for Person A for Homecoming King/Queen" signs.

Why are we encouraging people to vote for Homecoming, yet therehas been little to no noise about the real elections? Sure theschool has set up tables where people could register to vote, buthow heavily was that promoted on campus? Compare that to thepromotion for Homecoming voting, it is ridiculous. This is not highschool; we should care a little bit more about this PresidentialElection than who should be Homecoming Queen and King.

It is time for a reality check people, open your eyes and take alook at things outside of your own little World. If you do not letyour voice be heard this November then our voice will not be heardat all. We will have to settle for who our parents and grandparentspick. Do you really want that? Do you want your parents andgrandparents to pick the leaders of our country for us? If morepeople our age vote, then those politicians will turn their headsand they will be forced to hear us. What most of you may not knowis that a lot of politicians fear us, because they know that wecould be the ones to run them out of office. However, that willnever happen if we do not stand up and represent. Some of you maythink that your voice does not matter, well it does. There are alot of students here on campus and together, we are a forced to bereckoned with.
