CD REVIEW: Probot 'Probot'

RECENT RELEASE

**** (out of five)

David Grohl has got to be the busiest man in show business. When his band Foo Fighters aren't on tour or working on new material, he plays drums for Queens of the Stone Age, rocks out with Tenacious D and still has time for a side project titled "Probot." It's a tribute album in the truest sense, featuring new musical material from Grohl and lead by metal's great vocalists like Cronos of Venom, Eric Wagner of Trouble, Lee Dorrian of Napalm Death, and -- yes, that's right -- Lemmy of Mot+â-¦rhead. The result is probably the best metal album in years, perhaps even better than the ones Grohl is trying to copy. "I'd personally like to thank all of these musicians for making my life a better place," Dave writes in the sleeve. "Without them, the only liner notes I'd be writing would be on your order at the drive-thru." Should we raise our fists and shout, or should we be very afraid that things worked out this way? Maybe it's better if no one knows what to do. Well, who gives a sh*t anyway? Rock!
