WOMEN'S TENNIS Women to start MAC season

Cardinals hit road to face Toledo and Eastern Michigan

The Women's Tennis team will head on the road this weekend for the last time until the MAC Championship this weekend when they head to Toledo tonight and Eastern Michigan tomorrow.

"I think we're ready to go this weekend, ready to get MAC season underway, and after practice today, we're ready to take on Toledo," coach Kathy Bull said.

The Cardinals (8-4, 2-0 in the MAC) have faced Akron and Buffalo, who finished in the two lowest positions in the MAC last year.

The Cardinals beat Toledo last year 7-0, and the Rockets (2-10, 0-2 in the MAC) don't look any better this year, with a 4-3 loss to Youngstown State, a team the Cardinals beat 7-0.

"Well, they've got some new players, a little change from their lineup. I think that if we show up with six people with a strong mind, we should control the match from the beginning," Bull said. "I'm not concerned as much with Toledo as I am with my team."

Eastern Michigan (8-4, 1-1 in the MAC), meanwhile, has scored victories against Michigan State and Illinois-Chicago, to both of whom the Cardinals lost. Last year, the Cardinals fell 5-2 to Eastern Michigan, who was ranked No. 70 at the time.

"I haven't put much thought into them, they're quite a nice team; not as much depth as they had last year, but certainly they're one of the top teams in the conference," Bull said.

While Eastern Michigan stayed with the MAC's top team, Marshall, before falling 5-2, Bull feels that her team has a chance against the Eagles, assuming they do well in Toledo.

"I really believe that if we get some momentum from Friday -- if we can take some momentum from Friday into Saturday -- we can make things interesting, and I think it could be a really entertaining match."
