Intra-state rival Indiana dominates Cardinals in 7-0 sweep

The Cardinals faced what might become their toughest opponent ofthe season when they competed against the No. 28 Indiana HoosiersSaturday afternoon. The Hoosiers dominated the Cardinals 7-0,winning every match.

"I mean, it's always hard, IU is the very best team we playalmost every year," coach Kathy Bull said. "We put up an averagefight, but it was tough from the first ball."

Bull said that only the doubles team of Jill Wieman and JessicaThompson were able to get into their match against the Hoosiers(8-3), eventually falling 8-5.

"I wish my team could relax, see value of just playing at thatlevel and hit away," she said. "But it's the same battle foreverybody who goes up against that kind of team."

Earlier in the day, the Cardinals (7-4, 2-0 in the Mid-AmericanConference) were able to score a 5-2 victory over the Indiana StateSycamores (3-7). Bull said that her team eventually dominated thematch despite her expressed fears on how her team would match upagainst the Sycamores.

"We were a little slow at No. 2 and 3 doubles to start out, butI think that we got into it. I think, from 1 to 6 singles, we gotinto every match; that was my biggest goal," Bull said. "We wantedthe win; I thought that was an important thing to do as agroup."

Jill Wieman and Jessica Thompson won their matches in two sets, while Jenny Batty took her match into a double tie breaker. MelissaRoach's opponent retired after four games.

The doubles point was much closer, with Melissa Roach and KatieOwens the only ones able to come out with a quick victory. Wiemanand Thompson were able to squeak out with the 9-7 victory, whileBatty and Susan Kelly fell 8-6.
