Students to rally for student representative

Students can gather to rally for the addition of a second student representative on the Presidential Search Committee today.

The rally will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the scramble light and end at the Administrative Building, Katie Carlson, rally organizer, said.

Carlson said the rally will last as long as students have something to say.

"It's a chance for students to stand up for their rights," she said. "It's a great opportunity for civic engagement and a learning experience."

Carlson said she and other students decided to sponsor the rally because the Student Government Association decided not to hold it.

Instead, SGA chose to petition students, she said. SGA collected 722 signatures.

On Feb. 26, the University Senate passed a motion to request another student on the search committee.

The search committee is responsible for interviewing applicants for president of Ball State.

The 13-member search committee consists of representatives from administration, alumni, Board of Trustees, faculty and students.

Junior Sarah Atkinson is the only student representative serving on the committee.
