MEN'S BASKETBALL Cox gives up basketball to focus on golf

Kyle Cox, who just completed his sophomore season with the Ball State basketball team, has decided to give up his final two years of basketball at Ball State so he can compete exclusively for the men's golf team.

In a Ball State press release Cox said, "I decided it was in my best interest to concentrate on academics and to focus athletically on golf. Ball State basketball has been part of my life as long as I can remember. This was a very tough decision and one that was not made overnight."

The pre-med major has a 3.941 grade point average and plans to enroll in medical school after his college education.

Men's golf head coach Mike Fleck redshirted Cox last season. During his senior year at Blue River Valley High School, Cox had a nine-hole average of 35, which helped him earn winning medalist honors five times.

In his two seasons with the basketball team Cox played in 37 games, averaging nine minutes per game during his career.
