LETTER: Tolerance applies to both sides

Dear Editor,

In regards to your forum page on Monday, I find it ironic that someone so outraged by intolerance as John King finds it continuously okay to railroad those who oppose his own opinions with complete and utter disrespect. Many these days are crying out for acceptance and tolerance on many issues. On this day, John King chose to voice his opinion on gay marriage. He chose to bitterly mock those who don't believe exactly as he does. He even saw fit to bring Jesus into it. Why is it okay to disrespect a conservative opinion, but a terrible crime to disagree with a liberal one? On the opposite side of the page, Russell Greim expressed his opinion, gave reasons for it, and did so all without immaturely tearing anyone down who may not agree with him. Just because King is funny doesn't mean he should be able to get away with slander. I am appalled that a paper that touts itself as so supportive of diversity would even let King's ridiculous tirade be published. His sarcastic mocking of the state of America's freedom, "a land where we're all so friggin' free," would probably get him thrown in jail or beaten in many other countries. Move to France, Mr. King, where you will be free to pat yourself on the back for being the ironic hatemonger that you have presented yourself to be.
