LETTER: Indiana government moving backward

Dear Editor,

It seems that we are making serious progress backwards. About 6,000 years ago God defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman. That union often produced children. Marriage has been commonly understood to be the union of one man and one woman until just the last few years.

Some members of Indiana legislature are trying to establish a legal definition of marriage. Other legislators, encouraged and funded by anti-family groups, are trying to block it.

The official summary of that bill SJ0007 follows: "Definition of marriage. Provides that marriage in Indiana consists only of the union of a man and a woman. Provides that Indiana law may not be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents of marriage be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups."

I hope that our legislators will support this definition and not afflict the good people of Indiana with the monster of redefined marriage.
