In past Student Government Association elections, the ElectionsBoard has controlled the questions that were asked during thepresidential debate, while NewsCenter helped write the questionsfor the slate debate. After NewsCenter was dissolved, it would seemlogical for NewsLink to take over this role.
Instead, due to a miscommunication, the Elections Board isapparently running both of the debates and will oversee thequestion for both of this year's debates.
With the Elections Board in control of the topics that areaddressed, it is extremely possible that some of the issues thatstudents want to hear from the candidates on are being overlooked.More so than that, with each year's Elections Board chairpersonbeing chosen by the sitting SGA president, there is the chance forsome bias to be present on the Elections Board.
But members of SGA have recognized that, and continue to workuntil the last minute to alleviate any concerns.
Before the next SGA debate, Kay Bales, the associate vicepresident for student life, will meet with the Daily News at1:45 p.m. today to discuss possible questions for the event.
The Daily News urges anyone with questions they wouldlike considered for the debate to either bring them to the DailyNews newsroom, Art and Journalism Building Room 278, or e-mailthem to editorinchief@bsudailynews.com by 1 p.m. today.
If any student has concerns about the future of SGA, this is anopportunity to be heard.
