LETTER: Providing quality services to the students is a must

Dear Editor,

This past weekend, I was facing some car problems and on Saturday afternoon when I called Escort Services, I was bluntly told that they do not run on the weekends till Sunday evening. Needless to say, that left me pretty upset knowing that when I needed help, I was turned down.

From what I have gathered and understand, the money that students pay to attend Ball State helps pay for various services like the one I tried to get this weekend. I don't know about anyone else, but when I pay for a service I expect something in return when the time comes to turn to them for assistance. Nothing is more aggravating than being stuck and kicked to the curb like that.

After the conversation, it left me wondering if the school thinks that everyone leaves for the weekend and that the campus is totally dead. Well I am sorry to burst their bubble, but it's very much active around here, and things can and will happen. So why pay good money if we cannot rely on these services to help students out?!

A very simple way to fix this is to have Escort Services running during the weekend so students aren't left stranded someplace helpless or stuck without much other options.

Also, I feel it's important that they have the shuttle services running at later times on Fridays and start up earlier on Sundays. Some students may not be able to leave by 5:45 Friday evenings when the shuttle service stops, and some will get here before 6 Sunday evenings when it starts back up.

Hopefully with the upcoming SGA elections and the search for a new university president, the school can take care of this situation. If we are unable to get access to the various services when we need them the most, then why should we pay for it?
