LETTER: New student center would waste money

Dear Editor,

It is very good that these students had sufficient confidence inthemselves to "demonstrate" for a new student center.

But why not "demonstrate" for more access to achievement, hardwork and an interest in learning? That option would prove cheaper, perhaps, than raising tuition for students and asking the citizenryto pay more taxes for a new student center.

If you build a new building, complex, what have you, won't itcost you more money in tuition? Even if a building is donated, isgiven or is provided without increasing taxes or costs to studenttuition, it will cost lots of money to just to maintain that newfacility/building.

The politics of demonstrating is one thing. The costs aresomething else. Students should go one step further, and calculatethe costs of a new student center and expanded football complex, then ask themselves, what are our priorities? What benefits us themost? New skills in the classroom, or new buildings?
