With the second round of the Mid-American Conference Women'sVolleyball Tournament only days away, the league announced its fourAll-MAC squads. Among the honorees were three Ball State studentathletes: sophomore Sarah Obras, junior Stephanie Keller andfreshman Kelly Cochran.
Obras, a 5-10 outside attacker, made the All-MAC first team forthe second year in a row. She leads the league with a 5.42kills-per-game average. Her 623 kills this season are a BSU and MACsingle season record, while her 1,787 attempts are a NCAA recordunder the 30-point scoring format. Obras also ranks third in theMAC in digs per game with a 4.34 average.
As the Cardinals' libero, Keller, who was named to the All-MACsecond team, led the MAC in digs per game with a 5.93 average. Thataverage was also good for second in the nation. Her 628 digs in2003 are a MAC single-season record, while here 1,557 career digsrank first in school history. She is one of only two players in thecountry to post multiple 40-plus dig matches this season with a MACrecord 46 against Eastern Michigan (Oct. 3) and 41 against Toledo(Nov. 7).
Cochran earned Freshman All-MAC honors after averaging 2.56kills per game as an outside attacker. The first-year player wasmore than just an offensive threat for the Cards, though. Shebriefly held the school record for digs in a match when she notched39 against Robert Morris (Sept. 13). Cochran registered ninekill-dig double-doubles on the year.
The MAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards willbe presented tonight at the MAC's awards banquet at the RadissonHotel Roberts in Muncie. The MAC Coach of the Year will beannounced Monday.
