We awoke to tragic news Monday morning: A Ball State student hadbeen shot and killed by a Ball State police officer. In the weeksahead, there will be an ongoing discussion and debate about whathappened and why. I call on the entire Ball State community toexercise restraint in these discussions. Do not rush to pointfingers of blame and accusation. What we know is that one young manis dead and another is accused. What we do not know is how Mr.McKinney's actions appeared to Officer Duplain and how theofficer's actions appeared to the student. We cannot know becausewe were not there.
