MEN'S GOLF: Underclassmen to lead team at invite

The Ball State men's golf team has one match left to proveitself capable of putting together a solid team effort.

In their final match of the fall season, the Cardinals will playMonday at the Xavier Intercollegiate.

"We have to go play better than what we've been doing. We've gotto get a lot more consistent," head coach Mike Fleck said.

Traveling for the Cardinals will be freshman Wayne Denger,sophomores Patrick Wilkes-Krier and Brandom Boomsa and juniorsLance Scholl and Mike Kasula.

Denger is coming off a strong performance at the EarlYestingsmeier Invitational, where he led Ball State with athree-round score of 218 (69-74-75) and a tie for 12thindividually.

Heading into the final round at the Hoosier Invitational, Dengerhad a season average of 77.5 strokes per round. He has a 72.25average through four rounds since then and has been playing steadygolf in qualifying and competition.

"I think for Wayne it's been a work in progress this fall andhas come on here pretty strong as of late," Fleck said. "I look forhim to play well at the Xavier Intercollegiate, but at the sametime we need all five guys to play well."

Not including Ball State, five Mid-American Conference schools— Akron, Bowling Green, Marshall, Ohio and Eastern Michigan— will be participating in the Xavier Intercollegiate.

"It'll be very competitive and a lot of familiar teams there,"Fleck said.

The Xavier Intercollegiate will begin today and continue throughTuesday at the Grizzly Course at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio.
