THE TEMPORAL FRONT: Tolerance of opinion would be appreciated

Over this past week, I learned again, that some people hateme.

I was overjoyed.

Over the last few years, I have been a voice of conservatism. Mybeliefs are out there for anyone to look at. If there is a topicI

have written about, anyone can e-mail me and ask. But apparentlythere are some people, so intolerant of differing views that theyactually hate me. Every time I hear of such a person, and theirnarrow, isolated opinion, I know that what I am doing is the

right thing for all of those who enjoy my column, whether or notthey agree with me.

Before we get too far along in the year, I want to revisit mybeliefs for the uninitiated.

I believe that lower taxes are better because it gives peopleincentives to achieve. If the government begins to take more from aperson than they take home, then what is the reason to even work? Ibelieve that this concept is universal and even people makingmillions deserve to be taxed as fairly as someone making minimumwage. I believe that the government should keep out of people'slives. They shouldn't have a mandate to tell the citizenry what towear, what to drive, how many children to have, or how to raisethem. You cannot legislate morality. This is not the place of ourgovernment or any other. We can only lead by example. Ourgovernment needs to create incentives for people to get married, sothat they can provide a stable and nurturing environment for theirchildren.

I believe that no politician is always right, and I often timesfind fault with politicians in the Republican Party. I am aconservative, and I'm not going to take a bullet for anybig-spending politician because they have an "R" next to theirname.

I believe that the best way to create jobs is to let people keepmore of their own money and create incentives for people to startsmall businesses. The days of one company employing an entire townare over, and our government must move to help create jobs andwealth at the same time.

I believe that in America today, there exists a health caresystem second to none. Attempts to make it universal, or make it asocial system will surely lead to a degradation in service andleave America with the same kind of second rate systems of medicinethat Canada and Britain have now.

I believe that America is the greatest nation ever to haveexisted. It has repeatedly defeated the enemies of freedom. We nowstand in that same situation with terrorists threatening to strike. To fight these battles, we must have a strong military, for which Isupport ever increased funding for research, pay raises, and newequipment.

So now you know. Of course, I can't encompass everything Ibelieve here. You may not agree with me, and that is fine. I don'texpect you to. But I do expect people to respect my opinions, andthose different than yours. Sitting in classrooms and coffee shopsbadmouthing me or others who see the world in a different light isintolerance, pure and simple.

I hate intolerance. You should too.
