FOOTBALL: Bostic plays double role on offense

Receiver adds spark to sluggish BSU running attack

PITTSBURGH -- He didn't play defense, but Ball State's LarryBostic did see some double duty of sorts against Pittsburgh.

The sophomore wide receiver, who was a high school running backat Fort Wayne South, took some handoffs in addition to his normalpass-catching duties. He had five catches for 42 yards and atouchdown, but also carried the ball five times for 15 yards.

"Earlier in the week, coach came and asked me if I wanted totake some snaps (at running back)," Bostic said. "I'll do anythingto help the team."

"That was one of our main goals, to get the run game going. Wegot it established some. Yes, we lost, but it's a step."

And according to head coach Brady Hoke, Bostic playing bothpositions can be expected for some of the rest of the season, especially with the ground game struggling.

"That's something we need to look at and develop," Hoke said."(Offensive coordinator) Don (Treadwell) and the staff did a nicejob coming up with a package (of plays) for him."

Hoke said the 5-7, 175-pound Bostic provided a spark at runningback with his speed, something sorely needed for a team that isaveraging just 74.7 yards rushing after putting up a season-high 92yards against the Panthers.

"It felt natural," Bostic said of playing his old position. "Igot comfortable quickly. The main thing was getting adjusted to thespeed compared to high school."
