Doc's offers more than meets the eye

Headlining comedians, theme nights add to late night entertainment at local eatery

Doc's is a place for relaxing on your lunch hour or for night-time entertainment, and it is home of Tuesday-night comedy.

It has been open for four years. The club is continuously growing and looking for new audiences.

And each night of the week is given a different theme to attract all sorts of people. Monday is Pool League night, and teams can be joined at any time.-á

Each Tuesday, the headliner comedian from Cracker's Comedy Club in downtown Indianapolis and Broad Ripple comes to Doc's for a two-hour performance.

Comedian Greg Morton will appear on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. He has sold out each time he has previously appeared at Doc's.

The majority of the comedians are "R-rated," and doors open at 7 p.m., one hour before the show begins. Tickets are $8 at the door and $5 for Ball State students with an ID.

Wednesday night is titled "Over the Hump Day" and features miscellaneous activities ranging from a DJ to live bands to Karaoke.

Each Thursday night guests can enjoy the live music of Pappa Jazz. Dr. John Peterson, the owner of Doc's, plays with different bands each Thursday for an evening of smooth jazz.

Friday and Saturday nights are designated party nights at Doc's, with live bands of all genres appearing. Cover charges are set by the bands, but they usually range from $3 to $5.

Long-time Muncie resident Paul Troxell is one of the managers at Doc's. He has been involved in the project since the doors opened.

He invites and encourages everyone who hasn't yet experienced Doc's to "come and enjoy the fun atmosphere."-á

Since it's constantly growing, Doc's is always open for new ideas on how to successfully entertain Muncie.-á

Troxell said Doc's is known for "its insanity and entertainment," so all suggestions are welcomed.

Besides being a nighttime entertainment spot, Doc's is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch.-á The menu features a variety of unique sandwiches, the most popular being Italian meatball and roast beef.-á For those with a sweet-tooth, delicious cheese cake and candy apples are available to finish off a meal.

Whether you listen to hard rock or soft jazz, chances are that Doc's will have a night set aside to suit your tastes.-áIt can also be rented out for special occasions and celebrations.-á
