Huskie lineman dead after porch collapse

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Northern Illinois sophomore football player Shea Fitzgerald was one of 12 people killed Sunday when the porch of his older brother's third-story apartment collapsed. The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Chicago's North Side.

According to Chicago Police, up to 50 people may have been on the porch at the time of its collapse. There may have also been beer kegs and dancing on the porch. Twenty-one people were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital after the accident.

A 6-foot-8, 283 pound offensive tackle, Fitzgerald, 19, was a back-up last season for Tim Vincent, who is now a free agent with the Chicago Bears. He appeared in 12 games last year as part of the placement team. Fitzgerald also started the Huskies' game against Wisconsin at right tackle. While at New Trier High School, he garnered all-state honors in both football and wrestling.
