WNBA veteran hired as assistant coach

Ball State's women basketball head coach added yet another assistant coach to her staff last week with the hiring of Stephanie White. White replaces Nicki Collen who left Ball State to accompany her husband Tom at Louisville.

White is a three-year veteran for the Indiana Fever of the Women's National Basketball Association. She was originally drafted in 1999 by the Charlotte Sting.

White is also known as a star in Indiana high school basketball. The 1995 Indiana Miss Basketball led Seeger Memorial High School of West Lebanon to a 92-7 record while earning All-America honors all four years. She also held the state record for career points, which has since been passed. During her senior year, she averaged 36.9 points per game to hold the second-highest point scoring output in a single season.

White attended Purdue where she continued to earn recognition. In 1999, she was awarded the Wade Trophy as the women's national collegiate player of the year in leading Purdue to its first-ever national title. She was also a finalist for the Naismith Award the same year.

White has served two one-year sessions as an assistant coach for Lafayette Jefferson High School and Logansport High School last year.
