DEAN MOVES ON

AT ISSUE: Dean accepts position in Minnesota; leaves short by impressive legacy

Scott Olson, dean of Ball State University's College of Communication, Information and Media, is headed to Minnesota to assume responsibilities in a senior management position at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Olson will be the senior vice president and vice president for academic affairs starting July 14.

"Ball State is a wonderful university that my family and I will miss very much," Olson said in a press release. "We have been blessed with the opportunity to live in Muncie, and for me to work with such wonderful colleagues.

"But the opportunity to work with (Minnesota State) President Richard Davenport at this exciting time in Minnesota State's history was too exciting to pass up."

Olson became the dean of CCIM, one of the 10 largest colleges in the country in student enrollment, in 1998. He is the second dean of CCIM, and in his short time here, he built an impressive legacy.

He was crucial in the university's $20 million Lilly grant, which has been used to fund the iCommunication initiative, which will provide new and exciting opportunities for students in creative, high-tech digital communications fields.

The DAILY NEWS falls under the umbrella of CCIM, so it is only fitting that we thank him for all of his efforts in the last few years and wish him and his family the best.
