The No. 7 women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Eastern Michigan with a 4-0 win over 10th-seeded Buffalo. Ball State now faces the host Eagles today at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals won the doubles point by getting victories from Kara Sullivan/Alyce Zollman (8-1) and Susan Kelly/Jill Wieman (8-2). Jenny Batty and Melisa Roach did not have to finish their match.
Three quick singles victories clinched the match early for BSU. Kelley won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles, Zollman won 6-0, 6-2 at fifth and Sullivan 6-0, 6-0 at sixth. Roach, Batty and Wieman were all ahead in their respective matches and did not have to finish.
Roach, a junior, was also given First-Team All-MAC honors, the 11th player in program history to be selected. Roach, who has a singles record of 26-13 this year, was second-team in 2002. She has a career singles mark of 65-40 and is 58-43 in doubles play.
