Rain dampens tennis team's journey west

The plan was to escape the Indiana cold and travel west for competition and time on the outdoor courts. Both of these objectives were met by the men's tennis team, but in reduced amounts.

No. 61 Ball State traveled to Las Vegas for the UNLV Tournament that was scheduled for Thursday through Sunday. The intent was that the team would play three matches in three days, head coach Bill Richards said. Ball State left the tournament with one match in the record book. A 7-0 defeat of Weber State in the first round on Friday.

"It's disappointing to go that far and not play as many matches as you had hoped to," Richards said.

The second round match pitted Ball State against No. 65 Central Florida. Richards said his team was in the middle of warm-ups on Saturday when the rain began. The match was delayed until Sunday, which turned out as a repeat of the previous day's weather. The match was eventually canceled, and the team traveled back to Muncie on Monday.

Richards said the positive aspect of the trip was the team had a good week of practice before the bad weather moved into the area.

The win over Weber State improves the Cardinals record to 10-4.
