Soman to lead women at MAC

The women's track and field team will compete in the Mid-American Conference indoor track championship Friday and Saturday. Last year the Cardinals came in third place behind Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. The team is coming off a home win last weekend over Miami and Western Michigan.

Soman will be defending her long jump and triple jump titles after being honored by trackstar.com as National Athlete of the Week. This is the first time that Soman has received this honor.

Two Cardinals and one relay will be defending MAC titles. Natasha Lothery won the 800-meter run. Patricia Soman won crowns in the triple jump and long jump. The distance medley relay team owns the title time for its event.

She also received MAC track and field athlete of the week honors. This is the fourth time this season that Soman has received this honor. Soman has placed first in the triple jump fivetimes this season. She is also the only MAC track and field athlete (male or female) to post an NCAA automatic qualifying mark this season.

In this indoor season the Cardinals have come in first and second place in the two team-scoring meets in which they participated. The first place finish came at home last week against Western Michigan and Miami and the second place finish came during the third week of the season against Notre Dame and Western Michigan.
