Our View: Support

AT ISSUE: Students should attend as many sporting events as possible, regardless of the sport.

Monday night the women's basketball team took on the Miami RedHawks in a much-hyped game known around campus as Operation Sell Out.

Operation Sell Out was a marketing campaign designed to bring as many fans to the game as possible. It was a great idea - anything that will raise attendance at athletic events is. It's just a shame these marketing schemes are necessary. Admittedly, some sports are more exciting than others, and the truth is, football and men's basketball are usually at the top of the list when it comes to entertainment.

But there's one more thing to consider: We all know the players. Maybe we don't know them by name, and maybe we've never shaken their hands, but we know them.

They are the students who sit at the desks next to ours. They are the other students on the shuttle bus. They have had that professor who is currently putting us through the worst semester of our college career.

A bond exists between every student and every student-athlete at Ball State, and that is the campus and the lives that we share. Attending the athletic events on campus shows that you support what your fellow students are doing. They will then play harder to earn us all the bragging rights that we want.

Be it women's or men's basketball, football, swimming or field hockey, support your team. Let them know you are behind them.
