Letter to the editor: Candidate's response full of fluff

Dear Editor,

If SGA presidential candidate Nick Loving's Feb. 13 "Your Turn" column was intended to prove his slate's integrity, it fell short of its mark.

Nowhere in the column did Loving accept any responsibility for mistakes made or misunderstandings by him and his slate.

Instead of being a leader and acting responsibly, he played the victim and wrote off his slate's actions as the completely innocent actions of a targeted group.-รก

The remainder lapsed into the print equivalent of a fluffy campaign ad -- the reader is left back where he or she started, without any solid information about the so-called "integrity" of the slate.

Compared with Jayson Manship's missive, which read as an earnest attempt to clarify quotes and statements previous published, Loving's column seemed overly self-aware and pushy.

My advice? If Nick Loving and his slate are trying to clarify any alleged or actual transgressions, they need to accept some responsibility. No one wants a victim for a leader. Furthermore, save the slate-glorifying spiel for the debates, where it belongs.
