Rec | Get movin'

BSU-Rec offers ways to get fit.

Spring break is approaching, and many students are looking for ways to cut the weight and prepare to spend countless hours in the sun.

"Obviously the most popular (the rec. program has to offer students) is the fitness rooms," said Jason Adamowicz, assistant director of programs. "We have a great participation rate with intramurals."

The Ball State rec. program offers many activities as well as some new programs that are being offered this semester. New to the spring, the rec. program will offer group personal training, as well as individual personal training.

"We hope the class will get them going toward their fitness goals," Adamowicz said.

Adamowicz also said the Drop-in tournaments were relatively new to the rec. program. The Drop-in tournaments are tournaments that go on for one night and registration would be accepted that day.

The rec. program will also be hosting a One-Pitch Softball tournament for the first time late March as well. Batters will have one pitch to put the ball in play, strikeout or walk.

The rec. program also offers the usual intramurals of all types of sports, instructional recreation classes, sports clubs, personal training, aquatics and youth and family programs as well.

"Sport Clubs are overseen by the Office of Recreation Services," Adamowicz said. "These clubs provide students a chance to be responsible for every aspect of the management of their club."

Adamowicz said they expect more students to participate with the growing number in students this year. Last year during the spring semester there were 164,090 participants in the informal recreation areas (fitness, basketball courts, pools, and racquetball courts), the largest being the fitness rooms.

Participation has increased every year since 1994 according to Adamowicz. Last year the total participations were 666,098, in comparison to 1994-95's 247,348 participations.
