The Temporal Front: Iraqi conflict not driven by money or oil

It is not about oil.

Liberals and others ignorant of the truth are screaming that we are going to Iraq solely for the oil. That lie props up an agenda. That agenda is dangerous and selfish.

That agenda is the demonization of President Bush and the appeasement of the left wing "peace at any cost" minority. The facts defeat them, and their argument withers under scrutiny.

If we wanted the oil from Iraq, we could have it. It is that simple. All the United States would have to do is propose a UN resolution lifting restrictions on the export of Iraqi oil. France has already been importing oil form Iraq illegally. Russia wants Iraq to repay $10 billion in debt. Britain supposedly is as oil hungry as the United States in all of this. If we wanted the oil we can have it. Unfortunately for those who believe in it, the argument we are going to take over the country for its oil has absolutely no basis in reality.

Democrats are seeking desperately to make the President look bad. Enron didn't work after it became clear there weren't any ties to the Bush White House. Trying to blame Bush for Sept. 11 didn't work when it became apparent the intelligence failures were widespread. Now they are unsuccessfully trying to paint George W. Bush as war mongering, oil thirsty monster. Only the most ill informed leftists believe it.

This war is about stopping a madman. If Joseph Kennedy and Neville Chamberlain had opposed Hitler at Munich and supported an invasion and regime change, how many innocent millions would have been spared a gruesome death? If America stops Saddam Hussein before he acquires nuclear weapons how many millions will be saved? No one knows and hopefully no one ever will.

The stability of the region and stopping nuclear weapons from reaching the hands of terrorists is far more important than any natural resource. Those who believe otherwise need to stop making something out of nothing. They must embrace the facts and accept the truth.

Proof or speculation - you decide.

Those who are saying this war is less than honest base their entire argument on speculation and propaganda that we want war for oil.

Those who stand firm in saying that this war is to stop an aggressor have proof. Proof that Saddam has invaded other nations in the past and used chemical weapons on innocent civilians. Proof that he has tried to develop nuclear weapons in the past and is currently seeking the materials necessary to build nuclear weapons. Proof that he hates America and is a danger to western culture. Those who ignore these documented facts represent a danger of all their own.

President Bush was right. "We cannot wait for the final proof - the smoking gun - that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud," particularly if that cloud rises above New York City or Indianapolis. Protecting the lives of American Citizens is our first priority.

John F. Kennedy said it best: "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

Who can argue with that?
