Women's soccer team to face Bowling Green, Zips this weekend

After splitting its first two contests of the MAC season last weekend, the women's soccer team will travel to Akron, Ohio to face the Zips at 7 tonight before heading down to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals (4-2 overall, 1-1 MAC) defeated Kent St. last Friday before dropping one on the road at Toledo and are in the middle of eight straight matches against conference opponents. The Zips are off to a 0-1-1 start in the MAC, and a 3-2-1 record overall. Akron's only conference loss came at the hands of Ohio, the defending MAC champions, last Sunday after battling Marshall to a 1-1 tie on Friday.

"This weekend is going to be very similar to last weekend," said BSU head coach Ron Rainey. "The teams are going to be very evenly matched both Friday and Sunday. Akron is a second year program that has improved quite a bit and that became evident last week when they tied Marshall."

Bowling Green will play their second conference match of the year tonight, hosting Miami before before Ball State visits on Sunday. The Falcons are off to a 3-2-1 start overall and are 1-0 in the conference after picking up a win against Toledo earlier this month.

"Bowling Green has come out very competitive against some major programs like Missouri and they also beat Pittsburgh," Rainey said. "They're another team that will be a very difficult test for us."

Rainey went on to say that the team worked hard all week on capitalizing on opportunities and also said the team's mental focus would be a huge factor.

"We worked on being more opportunistic this past week," Rainey said. "Our key is that we have to outwork the other team. We have to make sure that we stay mentally focused for 90 minutes of both games."
