Kelley, Zollman named All-America Scholar Athletes

The women's tennis team was one of only three Mid-American Conference schools honored as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team. This is the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time in school history that the team has earned such an honor.

Ball State is one of 71 teams out of 300 Division I schools that sponsor tennis to earn All-Academic Team honors. Other MAC schools joining the list were Marshall and Western Michigan.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.25 or above. Athletes must be eligible and compete in at least one match to be included in the team average. The team's collective GPA last spring was 3.44, putting it near the top of Ball State's 22 athletic programs.

Individual scholar athlete awards are also given. Senior Alyce Zollman and junior Susan Kelley were named ITA All-America Scholar Athletes. Zollman, a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, earned the honor last year as well.

To be eligible, athletes must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.50 GPA or higher. Zollman boasts a 3.86 GPA as a telecommunications major. Kelley, who hails from Mason, Ohio, has a 3.56 GPA. Both have received BSU Presidential Scholarships.

"I am very proud to have our team once again honored as an ITA All-Academic Team," head coach Kathy Bull said.

"To achieve on the court and in the classroom is no easy accomplishment," Bull said. "We have been lucky enough to attract the type of individuals to our program who strive to and are successful in doing just that."
