Cardinals earn first victory

Reliving a rivalry and with the victory bell on the line, the football team defeated Indiana State 23-21.

On the opening kickoff, Indiana State's Soso Dede bobbled the return and was tackled at the 16 yard line. Sycamore quarterback Julian Reese then threw an 84 yard touchdown pass on the opening play, something the Cards did not expect.

The Cards went from there to pound the ball up the middle with the running game and mix in passing as well. The team stuck to a short passing game not making attempts to go deep.

Senior tailback Marcus Merriweather compiled 146 yards rushing, scoring all three of the team's toucdowns. Quarterback Talmadge Hill completed 20-of-26 passes for 150 yards, and rushed for 11 as well.

Sophomore Jason Barnes led all receivers with seven catches for 54 yards.

The Cardinals will prepare for its next matchup Saturday when they go to Clemson and face the ACC.
