National Pan-Hellenic Council will raise money to highlight organization

Greek event to benefit Muncie charity

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, a faction of Ball State's greek community, will kick off the school year today with a fund-raising event as part of its National Pan-Hellenic Council week.

NPHC, which governs all black fraternities on campus, will soon be joined by fraternities and sororities that will host events in promotion of each individual chapter's educational service, history and service projects for the upcoming year.

"It's an opportunity for (the fraternities and sororities) to host fun and educational events to highlight the organization and their history," said Lynda Malugen, director of Student Organizations and Activities.

Today the NPHC will collect donations from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Atrium in the Art and Journalism Building.

"The funds will probably go toward a local charity such as MOMs (Motivate Our Minds) or the South Madison Center," said Rob Turning, the council's adviser.

ORGANIZATIONS INVOLVED WITH THE GROUP

The Council consist of eight fraternities and sororities. The sororities consist of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Gamma Phi Omega. Alpha Phi Alpha, Iota Phi Theta, Phi Beta Sigma and Omega Phi Psi make up the fraternities.
