Greek organizations host events

Council will host discussion panel for freshmen

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, a faction of Ball State's greek community, will continue its week of back-to-school events with a discussion panel tonight geared towards helping prepare minority freshman for college.

The panel, "College Life Preparation" will begin in the Student Center Forum Room at 7 p.m.

Lynda Malugen, director of Student Organizations and Activities, said NPHC's week of events is an excellent way for members of the council to encourage new and returning students on campus to get involved.

"It's an opportunity for (the fraternities and sororities) to host fun and educational events to highlight their organization and its history," said Lynda Malugen, director of Student Organizations and Activities.

NPHC, which governs the eight black fraternities and sororities on campus, will continue its activities Thursday with an expression forum at the Student Center Tally and weekend events that include a midnight scavenger hunt and dance party.

The council is one of several greek organizations that has begun the school year with promotional events.

Theta Chi, a fraternal chapter governed by the Interfraterity Council, will host its 12th annual Water Daze Saturday at LaFallotte Field. The day's events begin at 1 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. Teams are instructed to check in at 12 p.m.

Admission to the event is $5 with proceeds directed to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Senior Josh Wilson said that Theta Chi often works to raise money for the children's hospital with unique community service events such as Water Daze.

"We always have fun, we try to change the games to make them better or at least different," said Wilson.
