Cunningham looking for new assistant director

Kelly Groddy left vacancy after resigning last year

Athletics director Bubba Cunningham is looking to fill an assistant athletics director position left vacant last year.

The resignation of assistant athletic director Kelly Groddy followed last year's resignation of athletics director Andrea Seger. Groddy was an assistant from December of 1997 until the end of last year. She took a position working at the NCAA in Indianapolis.

The position will have responsibilities of overlooking sports and various administrative work. Cunningham has yet to sit down with the staff and decide responsibilities.

"I'm going to sit and visit with all the assistant and associate AD's here," Cunningham said. "(We'll) Talk about their strengths and weaknesses; strengths and weaknesses of the department and allocate responsibilities as I think will best interest our short-comings, and capitalize on the stuff we do well."

Candidate will be responsible for overseeing sports, as well as doing various administrative tasks.

To fill the position, Cunningham is looking for many qualities.

"I'd like to get somebody with some experience at managing programs and has been in the industry for some period of time."

Cunningham is looking for "somebody who has a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and vision for where we're going and what they think we can accomplish. I'd like to have somebody who has good contacts in intercollegiate athletics."

The university still has to approve the paperwork and placement of the position on the Ball State and NCAA web sites.

This is the second position Cunningham will fill since becoming athletics director in August. Head baseball coach Greg Beals was hired by Cunningham a day after Cunningham took his position.
