Student arrested in standoff remains in jail

A Ball State student arrested Wednesday after a three-hour standoff remained in the Delaware County jail over the weekend.

As of Sunday night, Rahmon O. Davies, 21,1121 Neely St., had not been released. His bail is $35,000.

A court date has not been set for Davies.

Police arrested Davies on charges of aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly attacked a police informant working for a Randolph County drug task force Wednesday afternoon.

Davies then took refuge in his house for three hours before surrendering peacefully to the Muncie SWAT team.

Randolph County Sheriff Drew Wright said the informant was attempting to buy a quarter-pound of marijuana from Davies at his house on Neely Street.

Wright said the buy was initiated through the Randolph County Sheriff's office and that working out of county is not unusual for his drug task force.

"We work real good with the Delaware County drug task force," he said. "This is not uncommon."

Wright said Davies realized the buyer was an informant and then beat him. Davies' dog, a Doberman, also attacked the informant.

The informant suffered cuts on his head that required stitches.

Wright said he did not know what happened inside the house that revealed to Davies' that the buyer was an informant.

The informant ran out of the house and contacted Randolph County officer Steve Acree, who was nearby.

Acree then called the Muncie Police who responded and blocked off Neely Street from New York Avenue to Linden Street.

Acree could not be reached for comment.

Muncie Deputy Police Chief James Peters said Davies had a shotgun and a nine-millimeter handgun in his house.

Negotiators working for the Muncie police contacted Davies by phone and convinced him to surrender, Peters said.

SWAT officers entered the house around 5 p.m. and apprehended Davies.

Wright said he did not know what kind of drugs, if any, were found in Davies' house.

The Muncie-Delaware County Drug Task Force could not be reached for comment.
