BSU graduate murdered

Police found the remains of a Ball State alumna last week near Parker City inside a trash can in the bed of her husband's pickup truck.

Paul Lewman, 26, 215 E. 28th St., Muncie, is being held in the Delaware County jail without bond for allegedly murdering his wife, Kimberly Lewman.

Police believe Lewman killed his wife in Muncie and drove to a friend's house in Randolph County with his wife's body in the bed of his truck.

Muncie City police Capt. Robert Weller said Lewman had called his friend, who thought Lewman had threatened to kill himself. Lewman's friend called the Randolph County police and Lewman's parents, Randolph County Sheriff Drew Wright said.

Wright said when the Randolph County police arrived at Lewman's friend's house, 11990 W. Randolph County Road 300 N., Lewman's parents told them where the body was located - inside a Muncie Sanitary District trash can.

"When we got there we were able to unravel that there was a body on the scene," Randolph County Sheriff Drew Wright said.

Lewman's parents also told Randolph County police the murder was committed in Muncie, Wright said.

Wright said he contacted Muncie police to take over the investigation because he believed the murder was committed in Muncie and the body was found in a Muncie Sanitary District trash can.

Weller said when Muncie police arrived on the scene, they arrested Lewman on murder charges.

Delaware County deputy prosecutor Diane Frye said Lewman has been pre-charged with murder. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday, but the prosecutor's office received a 72-hour extension because it did not have the necessary paper work from police, Frye said.

The prosecutor's office now has until 9 a.m. Wednesday morning to file charges against Lewman.

Weller said he would not speculate on the cause of Kimberly Lewman's death.

Her body was sent for an autopsy Thursday. Weller said he had not yet heard the results of the autopsy from the Delaware County coroner.

The coroner did not return phone calls.

Kimberly Lewman graduated from Ball State in 1997 with a journalism degree.
