BSU head coach Rich Maloney leaves for Michigan

Baseball head coach Rich Maloney announced his last day at Ball State would be June 9 with intentions of leaving for the University of Michigan.

Maloney had interviewed for the position late in the baseball season. Last week he was one of four finalists for the job.

During his seven years at Ball State, he had a career record of 256-144-1. Maloney led the Cards to four MAC West Division titles and two overall MAC championships in his seven-year career.

In 1998 and 2001, Maloney was named the MAC Coach of the Year and was recognized in Baseball America for being one of the top 5 rising coaches in NCAA Division I baseball.

In the last six years, Maloney has coached 18 players who were drafted into Major League Baseball.
