Stars and Stripes offering discounts to students with I.D.

Local restaurant hopes to better serve campus during busy week.

Students needing a place to study and relax in the wake of cramming and preparing for finals will be able to enjoy the service and the special discount from a local Muncie restaurant.

Beginning April 29 and ending May 5, Stars and Stripes, formerly the Family Kitchen, will be offering a 25 percent discount on all meals for students with valid I.D.

General manager Tom Kitsos said it is a way of better serving the Ball State students especially during the familiar crunch time and giving them what they are looking for.

"We hope to give the students a place to go," said Kitsos, who is also a student and familiar with having to deal with the stress that comes with finals. "I know how it is and it's really stressful."

When the restaurant was purchased from its original owners in December 2001, the hours changed from being 24 hours daily to closing at midnight. However, due to popular demand from students and Muncie residents, Stars and Stripes reversed the hours.

The restaurant received its name as a show of patriotism in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Kitsos said the number of student customers had decreased when the restaurant closed at midnight, and since its change back to 24 hours, the numbers have increased.

Kitsos added that the number of customers are not important.

"We're not concerned about customers," he said. "We just want to be friendly with the students and make them feel welcome."
