Hudson slate wins election, hopes for change

Hudson said she wants to bring BSA to a new level, very excited about future.

Elections for the Black Student Association executive board were held at the weekly meeting Tuesday.

The Hudson slate was elected for the 2002-2003 academic school year. The slate included Junior Michelle Hudson for president, sophomore Russell Hale for vice president, junior Marvin Eans for secretary, freshman Sarah Mitchell for treasurer, sophomore Raykisha Smith for director of social events and junior Nataki Sanders for political chair.

Hudson said she is very excited about being the next president and has great plans for the upcoming school year.

"I'm looking forward to working with my team and taking BSA to another level," she said. "Our slate will help students with involvement and development for their college and occupational careers."

Presidential candidate Jarrod Dortch said that while his slate did not win, he is confident that they will remain active in BSA and in their previously involved activities.

The Hudson slate's goals include more involvement with the Student Government Association, scholarships and incentives for members such as membership cards and discounts to social events. Hudson said that dedication and motivation will help the slate produce a productive year.

Secretary-elect Eans said his main focus is bringing more organization and efficiency to BSA. Eans also said that more organization at the meetings will make things run more efficiently and smoothly, and, in turn, allow more things to get accomplished. Smith, who has been active with BSA since her freshman year, will serve as director of social events for the second year in a row. Smith said she has plenty of ideas to implement.

"I have a positive group of people that I'll be working with to get things done efficiently," she said.

While there were slates, students were allowed to vote for an individual person.

Vice president-elect Hale said he is looking forward to a productive year and is positive that BSA can move in the necessary directions to service its members and the Ball State community.

"Us working together as a slate will bring more than an individual," Hale said. "We work together as a team to utilize all our personal qualities to make BSA the best that it can be."
