SKI JUMPERS MASTER PHYSICS OF FLIGHT

Considered one of the most demanding sports, ski jumping requires an athlete who can handle gusting winds while traveling at great speeds and heights. In less than 30 seconds, ski jumpers travel the length of two football fields, 90 to 120 meters above ground. The skier must be aggressive in the jump, straightening the knees, stretching the body and aiming the skis and ankles upward at precisely the right moment. The "V" style increases aerodynamics and lengthens the jump. The jumper aims for the "K Point," a distance equal to the height of the hill. Participants earn points based on distance and style.
