EDITORIAL: Support seniors in final game tonight

Sure, the men's basketball team may win an outright Mid-American Conference West title tonight.

The real show however, will lie in the players. Tonight will be the final game for teammates Billy Lynch and Petie Jackson to play in front of what head coach Tim Buckley calls, "the Muncie faithful."

Jackson and Lynch have played together for eight years, four years at Delta High School and four years in college. Through their years they have developed into a guard duo that is not only skilled, but entertaining.

The two bring a combined threat of more than 20 points a game. Jackson averages 33 minutes a game while Lynch increased his play to 16 minutes a game.

Yes, there are other seniors on the squad that will be playing their final minutes in Worthen Arena tonight. Lonnie Jones and Brian Burns will also bid goodbye to the "Muncie faithful."

It's different with Lynch and Jackson. They get angry together, they get discouraged together. They are a team; they are teammates. They are a duo that will be remembered for years to come, or at least should be.

The only way to properly thank the two for their efforts and companionship is to attend tonight's game. For those two players, tonight's game is a game they will always remember. The least we as fans could do is thank them for the all the plays and wins they have given us to remember.
