A three-part guide to the Winter Olympics

SKATES: To many of us, ice simply cools our drinks or is a nuisance on the roads and sidewalks. To the athletes competing in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games however, it's life. These athletes spend days, months, even years perfecting their skills.

BOARDS: It can take days for a party of seasoned adventurers to climb a mountain, but it only takes a matter of minutes for a brave soul to descend one. The Winter Olympics showcases athletes who can do it even faster than that.

SLEDS: Utah Olympic Park holds bragging rights to one of the world's fastest sled tracks of its kind. The combined bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track in Park City, Utah is 24 miles from the Olympic Village. Sled speeds reach up to 90 mph and impact riders with forces up to four Gs.
