Administration plans future projects

Ball State's seven colleges should be finished with their own strategic

plan by the end of the school year, one Ball State administrator said.

-á-á-áAccording to Warren Vander Hill, the vice president of Academic Affairs,

the colleges of Fine Arts, Architecture and Planning and Science and

Humanities have yet to finish their plans.

-á-á "The president has constantly referred to this as a living document,"

Vander Hill said.

In the fall, the Strategic Plan Monitoring Group asked the deans to create

their own strategic plans in alignment with the university's overall plan,

Vander Hill said.

According to Vander Hill, each college was in various stages of long-term planning before the university even adopted its strategic plan. Because of this, some colleges were more prepared.

The overall university strategic plan was created during the 2000-'01

academic year by a 26-person task force chaired by Vander Hill. It comprised administrators, faculty and students. The plan was approved by President Blaine Brownell and accepted by the Board of Trustees last May.

-á-á The plan outlines six general goals scheduled for completion between 2001 and 2006. The goals emphasize the enhancement of excellence in undergraduate and graduate learning and the attraction and retention of high-quality faculty and other staff.

Each goal includes a series of specific measurements in which the

university can monitor its progress.

Once each college has completed its respective plan, the Strategic Plan Monitoring Group will review them and make a recommendation to Brownell, Vander Hill said.

"This is the first comprehensive plan of its kind that I have seen in all

my years at Ball State," he said.

The true test of the plan's success, however, according to Vander Hill,

will be if sufficient resources are created or reallocated for its

operations. Vander Hill said he wasn't sure how much could be created, given the state's current budget situation.

"The key to any plan is whether you can carry it out," he said.

According to the plan, students can expect the university to help them achieve technological proficiency in their respective disciplines.112jH+â-öcdV+â-ütQg"+â-¦!AYC?NQGd+â-ì%+âcZ+â-¦-újz1+â™1+â-èz_U?F-¼n-+`8Djl&@N'` +â-»-í*0?-¦'A+â-èd'!+â-ª'KHPX+â-«+â-¦3e(+â-¦+â-ê
